The Best Dentist for Children Near Stow
The best dentist for children is the one who understands how to grow and change with them. At MFFD, we understand that a child’s dental and emotional needs are very different than an adult’s needs. We also know that early positive dental experiences are key to encouraging a lifetime of oral health care. That’s why we focus on making your child’s visit to the dentist a pleasant, happy experience. Indeed, Dr. Evan, Dr. Batels, and team have the patience and skills to make a trip to the dentist fun instead of frightening.
We show and play, then do.
Kids are curious, but unfamiliar experiences and people can be frightening to them. In order to keep your child’s dental experience as anxiety-free as possible, we spend time talking with your child getting to know each other first. Also, we show our instruments and explain what each is for before we begin work. We’ve even been known to let little ones squirt Mom with water to show them how fun the dentist can be! This show, play, do approach keeps children informed and empowered during their visit with us.
We focus on education and prevention.
One of our primary goals is to help educate your child about good oral health practices. Cavities can be prevented! Our hygienists and doctors will help teach your child proper brushing and flossing techniques, as well as discuss healthy snack choices. In addition, we’ll address common issues such as thumb sucking and mouth injury prevention when appropriate. In short, we strive to partner with you to educate your child how they can have the healthiest smile possible.
Caregivers are always welcome.
Some children need that extra comfort of a parent or caregiver when visiting the dentist. All of our rooms and hygiene bays have plenty of room for you to accompany your child. Some caregivers, though, prefer to wait in the waiting room due to their own dental fears. In such cases, our team members are happy to relay messages of your child’s progress to you as you wait outside of the treatment area. In short, we work with the unique emotional needs of each child and family to find the best fit possible.
Nitrous oxide is available for children when needed.
Sometimes, a child needs a little more help relaxing before receiving dental treatment. We can answer this need with nitrous oxide. This safe, gentle gas is a mild sedative that makes kids feel “floaty” or “silly.” Your child is fully awake and able to communicate fully. In addition, its effects quickly wear off once we stop delivery, so your child can resume normal activities after treatment.
We provide continuity in their care.
For some patients, a pediatric dentist is their first choice when their child is young. Of course, sometimes that option may be the best. Before you know it, though, that toddler will be a teen with new emotional and dental health needs. As family dentists, we don’t stop seeing your child once their permanent teeth are in like many pediatric dentists do. Rather, we can continue seeing them throughout their life. This continuity of care greatly reduces dental anxiety and ensures a thorough understanding of one’s health history. These factors, we believe, make for the best dentist for children because they establish a lifelong relationship with a care provider and a habit of good oral care.
